LAI Welcomes New Research Staff Member

Dr. Ricardo Valerdi will join LAI this autumn as the newest member of the research staff. His appointment is effective Monday, 15 July 2005.

Ricardo previously worked as a member of the technical staff at the Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, CA. His work with the Economic and Market Analysis Center was focused on cost modeling and cost analysis of programs for the Air Force's Space and Missile Systems Center at the Los Angeles Air Force Base. He will continue his work in cost modeling with the refinement of COSYSMO, a model for estimating systems engineering effort, which has been calibrated with data provided by several major corporations.

LAI Researcher Donna Rhodes Receives INCOSE Founders Award

LAI researcher Dr. Donna Rhodes recently received the prestigious INCOSE Founders Award, for her 15 years of distinguished contributions to INCOSE, including serving as its Technical Board Chair, Fellow, Director of Strategic Planning and President.

More than 1,000 people attended the 2005 INCOSE (International Council on Systems Engineering) Symposium, held July 10-14 in Rochester, NY. INCOSE, the leading international professional society for systems engineering, has more than 6,800 individual members and 53 corporate members worldwide.

EdNet Annual Meeting to Convene in Los Angeles, 10-12 November

The Educational Network's (EdNet) Annual Meeting will be held this year in Los Angeles, CA, from November 10 through 12. The meeting is co-sponsored by Northrop Grumman and the University of Southern California.

This highly anticipated annual event will include talks by academic and industry aerospace lean thinking experts, tours of air and spacecraft facilities to see lean implementation at work, as well as contributed presentations on latest research and curriculum and an opportunity for active engagement in shaping the EdNet community for the next five years.

In addition, the annual meeting provides unparalleled opportunities for networking with academic, industry, and government colleagues nationwide.Faculty and instructors from EdNet member schools, LAI members interested in working with academia, and anyone interested in advancing the adoption of lean in academia should plan to attend.

Announcing the 2006 LAI Plenary Conference and Affiliated Meetings

The 2006 LAI Plenary Conference and its affiliated meetings and events will be held from Tuesday, 18 April through Thursday, 20 April, in the beautiful Hill Country just outside of San Antonio, Texas. The location is the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa.

The choice of topic this year underscores the maturation of the lean transformation process within enterprises. This focus reflects not only previous attendees' feedback and preferences, but also incorporates several significant content additions to those of previous conferences.

The line-up of speakers for the 2006 LAI Plenary Conference will be highlighted by several keynote speakers from the top ranks of industry, academia, and government.
