LAI Issues Call for Papers for Inaugural Issue of Journal of Enterprise Transformation

Cambridge, Mass. -- The Lean Advancement Initiative (LAI) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) announces the launch of the new quarterly journal, the Journal of Enterprise Transformation (JET). Co-Editors-in-Chief LAI Director Prof. Debbie Nightingale and LAI researcher Dr. Ricardo Valerdi are inviting submissions for JET's inaugural issue in January 2011. The first issue will focus on the intellectual agenda of enterprise transformation. The journal is a collaboration between LAI, IIE, and INCOSE and will be published by Taylor & Francis.

JET’s inaugural issue will focus on describing the intellectual agenda of enterprise transformation. The field of enterprise transformation is fragmented across many subfields of management, engineering, and the social sciences. As a result enterprise transformation studies are often disconnected and draw from unrelated theories, ultimately stalling progress in the field. There is a need to identify and compare theories of enterprise transformation to provide a landscape of possible building blocks that other researchers can apply and validate in their domains of interest.

This issue provides an opportunity to integrate theories, methods, and tools across disciplines in this exciting and rapidly evolving field. We invite research papers related to the following sub themes:

  • Review of contemporary transformation practices
  • Emerging theories of enterprise transformation
  • Differences between transformation and large-scale change
  • Case studies of enterprise transformation in specific domains, industry, government, education, etc.
  • Elements of successful transformations
  • Appropriate research methods for studying enterprise transformation

All complete papers will be subject to a peer review process. To be considered for this special issue, submit papers no longer than 30 double-spaced pages.

  • Full paper submission deadline: 1 May 2010
  • Publication decisions: 1 August 2010
  • Revised papers due: 1 October 2010
  • Please submit papers to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The three remaining JET issues in 2011 will focus on:

  • Issue 3: Enterprise Transformation in Action
  • Issue 4: Enterprise Modeling
