LAI Releases Whitepaper on Managing Large-Scale Engineering Programs

LAI researchers Drs. Josef Oehmen and Eric Rebentisch and McKinsey & Company consultant Kristian Kinscher, former visiting scholar from TU Munich, have completed the latest whitepaper in the LAI series Lean Product Development for Practitioners. The new whitepaper, Program Management for Large Scale Engineering Programs, is a compilation of LAI's accumulated contributions to advanced program management.

This new whitepaper summarizes some 120 LAI publications (that have been largely focused on largescale engineering programs, particularly in the aerospace and defense sector) to make them more easily accessible to industry practitioners. The authors group LAI’s research by major program management activities and provide a starting point for program managers, program management staff, and system engineers to explore LAI’s accumulated knowledge and discover practical guidance on everyday shared challenges.

The whitepaper introduces program challenges, defines program management, and provides an overview of existing program management frameworks. Finally, the authors introduce a new program management framework that they then use to summarize relevant LAI research.
