The issue of standardization versus diversity in enterprise product development processes. The overarching question is 'what is the right level of variation across product development processes in a multi-project organization?' Process standardization offers several benefits in terms of efficiency and learning, but process diversity can allow projects that vary widely in characteristics like scale, complexity, technological novelty, etc., to execute the process that fits their needs and thus more effectively meet project targets of cost, schedule, and quality. Sid's research creates a framework and methods to strike this tradeoff. |
