Nicolene Hengen joined LAI in 2007 and has more than 25 years of professional experience in communications management and membership development for a variety of international and U.S.-based public health, nonprofit, and educational institutions. Nicolene works closely with LAI leadership and executive board members on strategic issues related to strenthening and diversifying LAI’s membership base and communicating LAI research findings to both members and the public. She also serves as the managing editor of The Journal of Enterprise Transformation; the first issue will be released in early 2011.

Nicolene is the founder and past president of Roslindale Green & Clean, an award-winning nonprofit organization that works with the City of Boston and community partners on neglected public spaces in Boston. She serves on the advisory board of COGdesign and is a member of LeadBoston’s class of 2007, Boston Women Communicators, Women in Development, and the United Nations Association of Boston.

She holds a bachelor's degree in government from Smith College in Northampton, Mass., and a master's degree in international public health from the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, La. She is also a certified fundraising executive (CFRE).
